Anna's coach/manager Dave Miller is living in London and after missing the past NZ season is amped for the northern hemisphere summer!! (if it arrives in England!) The English tour or VEBT is in its 3rd year and is still growing and becoming established. Dave is hoping to find a good partner for this tour which is spread out over the next 3 months with about 8 weekend tournaments culminating in a finals weekend in Brighton. Check this site for updates and Dave will blog each week under the blogs page.
Anna Takes Her First Tasman Open Title!
Anna Chamberlain and Peri Stenhouse headed the 16-team field with a convincing 2-0 win over Blenheim's Suzie Wickham and Abbie Greenland in the final of Wednesday's third annual Port Nelson Tasman Open.
Anna and Peri last played together at the NZ Open in February 07 before Peri represented NZ in the indoor team and then moved to Australia. They beat Jackie Steffert and Emma Riordan in the semifinals, while the Blenheim duo beat Sarah Baldwin and Dayna Whiting to reach the final.
13 seems to be the lucky number for Anna and Jess right now
Event 4 and Wellington put on a blustery old day as usual.
Anna and Jess played their rounds as follows:
Round 1 bye
Round 2 played Koester / Davis USA (3) and lost in straight sets, 2-0 (21-7, 21-14)
Round 3 bye
Round 4 played Tilley/ Sheriff (11) and lost 2-1 (18-21, 23-21, 15-8)
Another ranking of 13. Well done girls.
No surprises, the Brazilian girls won again, though this time in a tight 3 set match against the New Zealanders Anna Scarlett and Susan Blundell. the score ended up being 0-2 (18-21, 21-19, 8-15).
All the news from Wellington can be found on the New Zealand Beach volleyball website.
McEntee Hire National Beach Volleyball Tour - Event 3 Mt Maunganui Jan 8/9 2008 Results
Well done! Anna and Jess scored another 13th place.
Seeded 14th in this round, they took on Horobin / Josephson (19) in round 1 for another tight 3 set match. Once again though the girls were too strong in the last set and easily defeated them. Scores were 19-21, 21-19, 7-15.
Round 2 saw them playing New Zealand's top womens beach pair, Anna Scarlett / Susan Blundell (3) who won 2-0 (21-12, 21-9).
Round 3 however saw what should have been an easy match against the unseeded pair Whitewood / Taane go to a nail biter in the second set. A good result all the same with the score of 0-2 (15-21, 19-21).
Round 4 seems to be the spot where the tough games are fought. Anna and Jess had to play Hill / Ruru (11) and were beaten 2-0 (21-9, 21-9).
Once again Saldanha/ Maestrini BRA (2) won the event against Koester/ Davis USA (4) with a 3 set match scored 1-2 (21-18, 15-21, 8-15).
Ohope results
Anna and Jess won the first round game against Dixon / Aiello. The pairs were seeded evenly (16 and 17 respectively) and the first two sets were very tight going to 18-21 and 21-19 respectively. With the set score at 1 each, the girls came out firing in the third and put away a relatively easy victory with 15-9. Well done!
Round 2 saw Anna and Jess take on Anna Scarlett and Susan Blundell-No 1 seeds and NZ's No 1 team, losing in 2 sets 21-16 and 21-8.
In Round 3 Anna and Jess defeated Horobin / Josephson seeded 18th in easy 2 set win, 21-13, 21-5.
Game 4 saw the girls come against 9th seeds Parnell / Williamson. After losing the first set 13-21 the second set went to deuce and was fought over furiously. Unfortunately the girls ending up losing this set also though the score indicates it wasn't a lay down 21-23. A finish of 13th= came from this tournament which is Anna's best tour result yet.
